Weather advisory for accumulating snow on Long Island until Thursday morning

An advisory from the National Weather Service was issued at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday for accumulating snow until 5 a.m. Thursday for northwest Suffolk, northeast Suffolk, southwest Suffolk and southeast Suffolk.

“Snow will spread across the area late tonight into the early morning hours. The snow will be mostly light, but could lighten briefly between 1:00 and 5:00 a.m., with snowfall rates reaching half an inch per hour at times. Snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are expected with the heaviest amounts on the east end of Long Island and eastern New Haven and eastern New Haven and Middlesex areas. If you are traveling overnight and you will be careful, use the roads to slide.”
