Snow forecast update: Northern Onondaga County towns could get another 7 inches starting Friday

Syracuse, N.Y. – Up to 7 inches of lake-effect snow could fall in northern Onondaga County towns beginning Friday morning, making travel difficult at times, according to the National Weather Service.

The most snow is forecast for Brewerton, Cicero and Lysander between 7 a.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service said Thursday afternoon.

Much less snow is expected south of Syracuse, the weather service said.

Nevertheless, the entire region is under a snow effect warning from 7:00 a.m. Friday to 7:00 a.m. Saturday.

The Friday morning and evening commute could be hazardous with heavy snow, the weather service warned.

Another 2 to 3 feet of snow is forecast in a very narrow but intense band that should cover Oswego County.

Heavy snowfall is expected to begin overnight on New Year’s Day. Snow could fall at a rate of 3 to 5 inches at times, according to the National Weather Service.
