Five injured in knife fight in Armory Square on New Year’s Day, Syracuse police say

Syracuse, NY – Five people were injured, four of them stabbed, during a fight in Armory Square early in the New Year, Syracuse police said.

Five men were hospitalized after officers working the Armory Square detail encountered a fight, according to Sgt. Thomas Blake, Syracuse Police spokesman.

Two of the men were taken by ambulances from the city center while three others were later reported to the police after turning up Upstate University Hospital with stab wounds and injuries.

The injured people appear to have been fighting each other, Blake said, but noted that the investigation is in its early stages. No weapons have been found yet.

At 2:12 a.m., police found several people fighting near the intersection of South Franklin Street and West Jefferson Street, Blake said.

Syracuse Fire Department and AMR EMS were dispatched to the scene a minute later, according to Onondaga County 911 dispatch records.

A 25-year-old man with a stab wound to his leg initially approached officers, Blake said. Officers administered first aid to treat his profuse bleeding until an ambulance arrived, Blake said. The man was taken to Upstate and is listed in critical but stable condition.

Officers also found a 27-year-old man at the scene with multiple stab wounds to his upper body, Blake said. He too he was taken to Upstate, where he is stable and expected to survive, Blake said this morning.

Soon after responding to the fight, police were called to the Upstate emergency room because three other people with suspected injuries were seeking help, Blake said.

The first was a 29-year-old man with a stab wound to his hand. The second was a 34-year-old man with a stab wound to his body. The third was a 26-year-old man who suffered minor injuries.

Syracuse Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Syracuse Police Criminal Investigation Division at (315) 442-5222 and reference case number 26-101153.
