If Caitlin Clark is looking for a New Year’s resolution, maybe she should start by making better decisions about which NFL teams to root for.
The Indiana Fever star and face of the WNBA is a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan. Clark’s father, brother and numerous cousins were Chiefs fanswhich made it easier for her to ingrain loyalty in her childhood.
Of course, with the Chiefs out of the playoffs, Clark will need another team to root for in the playoffs. In an appearance on The New Heights podcast with Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce, the hosts tried to figure out Clark’s underlying interest in this year’s playoffs.
Needless to say, Clark will not be pulling for the Buffalo Bills.
Jason and Travis Kelce playfully suggested that Clark could pull for the Bills. She quickly dismissed the thought.
“I hate Billy,” Clark said, giving a double thumbs down. “Ugh.”
As a Chiefs fan, it’s understandable that she wouldn’t root for the Bills in the postseason. The Chiefs and Bills have one of the best rivalries in the NFL as of 2020.
However, Clark revealed the team she will ultimately root for in the playoffs. He’s pulling for the New England Patriots, the AFC East’s No. 2 team in the playoffs.
“Honestly, I’m a fan of Drake Maye,” Clark added. “I think he’s been unbelievable and I think the Patriots are … I’m probably going to pull for the Patriots.
Maye is an MVP candidate this season after helping lead the Patriots to a 13-3 record in 17 weeks. His development and historically easy schedule have helped turn New England around this season. According to Pro Football Reference, New England has played the tenth easiest schedule of any team since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970.
In the playoffs, the Patriots will have a chance to silence the doubters who believe their record is due to the competition they have faced this season. If they can’t, Clark will have to find another team to take care of pretty quickly in what promises to be a competitive playoff field.
