These photos show why Central NYers are true masters at handling massive snowstorms

The next Golden Snowball surely belongs to Syracuse.

A lake-effect snowstorm dumped at least a foot of snow on communities in central New York overnight. A mix of strong, gusty winds and fresh piles of dust snarled across the roads, leading to dozens of accidents and wrecked vehicles across the region.

The late 2025 CNY snowstorm isn’t over yet: Another 1 to 2 feet of snow could fall by New Year’s.

Since the children were still on winter break, there were no school delays or closures to report.

The violence from Mother Nature shut down businesses and community organizations, from libraries and senior centers to all government offices operated by Onondaga County and the city of Syracuse.

The snowstorm also delayed garbage collection for some Syracuse residents and work to repair a burst pipe that cut off water to six towns east of Syracuse.

But Central New Yorkers know how to make the most of a snow day.

One memorable photo showed the adorable baby girl, born on December 10, wrapped in a pink Winnie the Pooh snowsuit and enjoying her first snowstorm – a real rite of passage in downtown New York.
