Will Ed Oliver return to the Bills playoffs? McDermott provides an update

Orchard Park, NY – Ed Oliver’s potential playoff return with the Buffalo Bills remains shrouded in mystery.

Oliver, 28, suffered a torn bicep in Buffalo’s Week 8 win over the Carolina Panthers. The defensive tackle underwent surgery shortly after and has been seen in numerous videos on social media as he looks to make a comeback.

Following Buffalo’s 13-12 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, head coach Sean McDermott provided an update on the star defensive tackle.

McDermott noted that Oliver is “trending in the right direction” when it comes to returning, but added that the defensive tackle suffered a minor setback in his recovery. He did not provide any details about the setback, but McDermott added that he does not believe it will have an impact when Oliver returns to the field.

With so many uncertainties surrounding Oliver’s return, Buffalo may have to lean on what it has. Against the Eagles, the undersized unit held its own and then some.

Deone Walker, TJ Sanders, Larry Ogunjobi and Pidarian Mathis all started for Buffalo in the team’s 13-12 loss to the Eagles. The unit was instrumental in limiting Saquon Barkley to 68 yards on 19 carries (3.6 YPC) and holding the Eagles’ running game to just 82 yards on 26 attempts.

The good news for Buffalo is that the position could get some reinforcements for the playoffs, although Oliver’s status is unknown. DaQuan Jones (calf) and Jordan Phillips (ankle) are both options to bolster the room at some point in the postseason.
