Syracuse, NY – Syracuse linebacker Jahide Lesaine Jr. plans to enter his name into the NCAA’s transfer portal, according to a report by Chris Hummer of 247Sports.
Lesaine is the 24th player from last year’s SU roster to indicate he will play college football elsewhere next season.
Listed at 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, Lesaine played in 17 games over two seasons with the Orange. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Lesine signed with the team as a three-star prospect in the 2024 class and was ranked as the No. 1,220 prospect in the nation in the 247Sports composite rankings as a high school recruit.
Of the 26 players who signed with the Orange in Fran Brown’s first recruiting class, only seven are currently on the roster who have not expressed interest on the transfer portal.
Brown put together this highly ranked class in less than a month on the job.
Lesaine played five games for the Orange last year. That included 49 snaps on defense and 17 on special teams. He made three tackles and a fumble recovery.
He earned Pro Football Focus’ fourth-worst grade among the 53 players who played defensive snaps for the Orange last season.
While 24 players leaving a program is a significant number, the 10 Power-Four programs that qualified for the College Football Playoff last year averaged 25.2 departures via the transfer portal, according to On3.com.
Among those expected to leave the Orange this offseason, running back Yasin Willis is currently the only one likely to enter next year with a starting role.
Players cannot officially enter their names on the transfer portal until January 2, but can share their plans at any time.
