At 5:27 p.m. Sunday, the National Weather Service issued an Ice Storm Warning in effect from 7:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday for North St. Lawrence, Northern Franklin, Western Essex and Southwestern St. Lawrence.
“Considerable icing expected. Total ice accumulation between four and seven-tenths of an inch. Winds gusting to 35 mph, but up to 50 mph in the Saint Lawrence Valley Monday afternoon,” the weather service comments. “The heaviest ice accumulation will occur between midnight and 10 a.m. Monday. Temperatures will quickly drop below freezing with gusty winds Monday afternoon and evening, which may cause power outages into Tuesday morning.”
“Significant ice accumulation on power lines and tree limbs may cause scattered power outages. Travel could be nearly impossible, especially during the Monday morning commute,” the weather service explained. “Travel is strongly discouraged. If you must travel, keep a flashlight, extra food and water in your vehicle in case of emergency. Be prepared for possible power outages.”
