Syracuse Playlist: Looking back to 2025 in downtown New York music


“Syracuse Playlist” is a quarterly feature syracuse.com highlighting music from local artists. Musicians from Central New York shared a lot of great songs in 2025 and you can listen to them on the “Syracuse Playlist”.

We share news from rap, rock, folk, R&B, country, pop, alternative, EDM, jazz, blues and more every quarter so you can discover and follow the local bands, singers and rappers you love. Tracks are featured on syracuse.com, in The Post-Standard newspaper, and on a Spotify playlist titled “Syracuse playlist.” You can listen with a free Spotify account (or a paid subscription) and click on each artist to hear more of their tracks, share them or add them to your own playlists and listen to them at home or on your mobile device. (Cell phone data or WiFi may be required.)

We’ve added dozens of new songs this year, including national acts with CNY ties and local artists who could soon be playing to a bigger audience. Here are some of the highlights of 2025:

For hip-hop/R&B fans: The big news this year was Syracuse native Toosii, the “Favorite Song” hitmaker who released half a dozen new songs in 2025 (including “Please Don’t Go” with YoungBoy Never Broke Again) and announced he’s taking a hiatus from music to play football at Syracuse University next year. Other rappers and singers on the track list include Christenelle Diroc, GY Joey, Ditto Hustle D-Roc, Stove God is cookingand Trappin Quik.

For country/folk/Americana fans: SAMMY-winning singer-songwriter Sydney Irving has signed a record deal for her new album, which features a mix of Americana, pop, rock and modern folk music. Hats off too Big green, Harmonic dirt, Jon Regalia, Mira Grimm, Reed Kirkwood, The Rollin’ Rustand Whitney Rd.

For rock fans: Max Scialdone, a singer-songwriter who has worked with the bands Autumn Fire, Into Shadow and Riptide, won a SAMMY for his recent solo album at the 2025 Syracuse Area Music Awards, while Into Shadow won Best Hard Rock. Other highlights include Big green, Cleaned in carbons, Advice, Flashcubes/Half cubes, Jeremy Romance, Crazy damage, Maybe Sunday, Couch on the porch, See through the faded, Posted from Beyond, Silverset, The Yagas (including Syracuse University graduate Vera Farmiga) a Youth secondary.

For the fans everything else: Baldwinsville natives Rob McCall (vocals, guitar) and Corey Jordan (guitar, piano, vocals) formed All poets and heroes after college, they won the 2023 SAMMYs and won the Battle of the Bands competition in Nashville, where they are now based. Plus check out 1 DRFL, Austin Jimmy Murphy, Chainsmokers, Claude, CNY Jazz Orchestra, Delmar place, Drama Fools, Gypsy nights, Harvey Fonda, James and the Kyusonics, Jeff Tripolis, Jess Novak, Joe Bonamassa, Leif Olsen, Lisa Levens, Modafferi, The Nate Gross Band, Regal Hardwareand Rose N Thorne.
