Syracuse, NY – Former Syracuse starting wide receiver Umari Hatcher will enter his name on the transfer portal, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Hatcher will be the 22nd member of this year’s team expected to explore playing football elsewhere this offseason. Zenitz quoted Hatcher’s agent in his report.
Hatcher, who is listed at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, will need to receive a hardship waiver from the NCAA to remain with any college eligibility.
Hatcher suffered a season-ending injury at the end of the 2024 season and played just four snaps for the Orange this year, all against Colgate.
He wore a brace on his leg throughout training camp, where he still appeared to be struggling to regain speed and explosiveness.
Originally recruited by Dino Babers, Hatcher started 11 games for the Orange in 2023 and six more most recently during Fran Brown’s first year.
By the end of last season, however, he was largely on the depth chart behind other members of the deep receiving corps.
Hatcher came to Syracuse as the No. 818 prospect in the Class of 2021. Other schools that reportedly offered him during his high school recruitment included North Carolina, Michigan State, Penn State, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
While a large number of players seem likely to leave the Syracuse football program this offseason, only one of them, running back Yasin Willis, finished the year in an established starting role.
Willis is currently ranked by On3.com as the Orange’s biggest loss and the No. 127 player available on the transfer portal this offseason.
