The Georgia transfer becomes the 20th Syracuse player scheduled to enter his name on the transfer portal

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse offensive lineman Josh Miller said Tuesday he plans to enter his name on the transfer portal, becoming the 20th player on the Orange roster who plans to explore other college destinations this offseason.

Miller shared his plans on social media.

A transfer from Georgia who joined the Orange before the 2024 season, Miller played as a backup at various positions along the offensive line last season, including one start at center. He also played at left guard and left tackle.

Miller was seventh among SU offensive linemen in snaps played on offense last season (214) and fifth among those eligible to return next year.

He did not allow a sack but gave up six quarterback pressures, according to Pro Football Focus.

Syracuse starting center Austin Collins is ineligible, and head coach Fran Brown’s comments about the offense this offseason indicated the Orange don’t consider Miller to be his successor at the starting position.

Miller has two years of college eligibility remaining.

His departure makes it even more likely that the Orange will be looking for a starting center on the transfer portal. Starting guard Joe Cruz was the Orange’s third line at center last year.

Miller’s Pro Football Focus ranked him 22nd out of 59 players who played offensive snaps for the Orange last season.

His worst performance came against Pittsburgh, in which Miller said he acknowledges that Collins’ injury in the first game threw him off.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 320 pounds, Miller began his career at Georgia and was ranked as the No. 654 recruit in the 2023 class.

Miller also entered his name on the transfer portal last season, but decided to return to Syracuse with Brown’s permission.

The transfer portal will not open until January 2, but footballers can share their plans at any time.
